“Angel in the Wilderness” is a radiant mosaic by Oxford-based artist Becky Paton, created in glass and mixed media on board. Measuring 60 cm in diameter, this remarkable piece was inspired by a sketch by Edward Burne-Jones, whose ethereal figures and romantic spirituality have long influenced Becky's work.

The mosaic portrays a cherubic young angel dressed in an ivory-and-pearl gown with a softly ruffled collar touched with gold and coral, and a delicate grey bonnet framing her face. Around the border, alternating pink and ivory butterflies dance in a circular rhythm, edged in soft rose tones that lend a gentle luminosity to the pieced.

Becky explains:

"Angels have filled my thoughts and inspired my work for some time. At the Wilderness Festival in 2024, children were wearing beautiful costumes - little angels with iridescent wings, dancing like butterflies in a constant stream of music."

The result is a work that feels both celestial and human - a celebration of innocence, music and light. Rendered in tones of pink, pearly ivory and gold, "Angel in the Wilderness" glows with the quiet spiritual grace that defines Becky's distinctive mosaic style.
