Annie Hewett - Ceramicist

Annie Hewett discovered clay in 2001, following an accomplished career in the arts. Her ceramics bring together painterly illustration and considered form, drawing inspiration from the quietly radical work of Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden, Stanley Spencer, John Minton and textile designer Lucienne Day.

Each piece begins with drawing - Annie’s first language - then is reimagined in clay with a distinctive, characterful style: clean silhouettes, lively mark-making, and a sensitive use of colour. The result is functional ceramics with an artist’s eye; objects that feel at once modern and steeped in British design tradition.

Chosen for Eleven Bibury for their clarity of line, wit and warmth, Annie’s works are made to be lived with - pieces that invite daily use while rewarding a longer look.
